I photographed this particular nautilus at the Monterey Bay Aquarium in 2013 and painted the original painting in watercolour in 2014. The nautilus is symbolic and meaningful to me because it creates a new home for itself as it outgrows its old one.

If you have been following me for a long time you’ll know that I used this image as my logo for a several years when I first started out as a scientific illustrator! The original sold in 2020, but I have a few archival prints available at this size, and there are just a few prints left at this size of 8” x 9”. It could easily be framed with an 8”x 8” mat opening to put it in a square standard-sized frame, without losing any of the animal’s body.

It would look great in a square frame (such as 10”x 10” or even 12” x 12”, but with an 8” x 8” mat opening (see 3rd photo of the framed original). This archival print was printed at Island Blue. It will be signed and will ship unframed in a plastic sleeve with an acid-free card backing board.
